ILI is open to any innovative research topics within its area of specialization. However, for those who need suggestions, the possible themes of future researches and projects at our Institute tentatively include the following:

Theme one: Conflict, human security and leadership: The role of leadership over conflict and resources, conflict and human rights, conflict and economic development, and conflict and environmental sustainability.

Theme two: Education and Development: Researches under this theme may focus, among others, on equity and exclusion in education, economic returns to education, education and economic shock, education, children and work, education, governance and decentralisation.

Theme three: Integrated Approaches to Rural Development: This theme may include, among others, rural-urban migration, poverty, and issues related to human security. It may further focus on integration and application of economic principles to rural development, institutional reform and planning, macro-micro-dynamics of poverty, political parties, governance and social change; financing political parties and electoral campaigns, competitive politics and economic policy reforms, local democracy and governance; land, poverty and institutions; water, livelihoods and sustainable development; forestry, rural development and poverty; value chains, local economic development and social protection; civil society and social action, dynamics of civil society formation, role of external actors in civil society strengthening and structural change of unequal power balances. This is a wide area that encompasses various disciplines and stakeholders.
